What support can make possible.
Support can fund a specific investigation, maintain a free tool, or pay someone to review the work. It can also give the practice enough time to follow a question through.
- Protected time: enough continuity to follow a question through to a useful result.
- Paid contributions: defined research, engineering, coordination, and review work.
- Public outputs: documentation, accessible explanations, and tools that people can use.
- Stewardship: maintenance, handoffs, and a record that remains available.
More than one way to contribute.
Possibilities to discuss include a funded investigation, a fellowship or institutional partnership, support for maintaining a free tool, or a paid project with a clear public benefit.
Expertise, introductions, and access to relevant public records can also matter. Each commitment should make clear what is expected, who does the work, and what can be published.
What funding should preserve.
Support should make room for independent judgment, transparent limits, correction, and publication of findings that may be inconvenient. Funding the work should not predetermine its conclusions.
